My approach to tutoring can be summed up, I think, by this quote from the well-known George Eliot: 'If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.'
I very much believe in the idea that absolutely everyone in this world has unlimited potential- but that this potential is not always seen, or tapped into, and I think that is a huge shame.
Not everybody learns in the same way, and this is a well-known and researched concept within education theory, especially the ideas of Howard Gardner, founder of 'Multiple Intelligences Theory', who condemns the assessment system as too 'one-size-fits-all', and as not only restrictive and unhelpful for students, but as ignoring the fact that every individual is just that: individual.
I believe in rigorous, thorough and repetitive practice as the path to success. (But I'm friendly too! :) ) As Aristotle says: 'We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an ACT, but a HABIT.'

1 week work experience as a TA in a French primary school
1 year as a peer mentor to younger undergraduates on my university course, advising them on writing essays as well as questions to do with university life in general
1 year as a GCSE maths tutor, providing teaching support to younger students taking their GCSEs
