Tutoring approach

I understand that everyone learns in different ways, and therefore I approach each student personally, noting the ways in which they retain information most effectively. I believe that learning should be interactive and fun, and I do not structure sessions by encouraging students to copy lines from a text book. I ensure that each session is tailored to a particular topic, and I ensure that objectives are clearly explained before a session begins. I encourage students to explain concepts verbally and in their own words, as I believe this is the most effective way of ensuring the student fully understands the work. I am extremely positive and I will alter my teaching methods if the student does not understand the content. I believe that learning should be both enjoyable and constructive, and I work extremely hard to ensure that each session is tailored appropriately.

 

Professional experience

I spent three years tutoring individuals part time, from primary school level to A level. I tutored both young children and adults, primarily in Maths and English. I also worked as a classroom assistant for 8 weeks during my time at University. This involved a large amount of mathematical support, helping children to advance with their studies in Maths.
