Tutoring approach

I have never enjoyed simply memorising and regurgitating information. The most enduring lessons are learned because of interest or practical value. I use my own personal enthusiasm for a subject to stimulate interest in students. Where possible, I try to make lessons simulate practical application in a real setting - fundamentals are easily remembered if their utility is more obvious.

 

Professional experience

My academic studies have been in genetics and an evolutionary approach to language development. I have worked in genetics laboratories in the UK and Taiwan.
I taught and tutored English as a foreign language in Taiwan for over 4 years, including life sciences students at National Taiwan University.
