Some: in Kingston Grammar School I helped out with extra classes--these classes were for students who wanted to improve their grades on their homework. I helped out with English and maths.
I have also received some training from a professional tutor--I have learnt how to plan lessons and structure the limited time one has before exams.
I think patience and understanding is important so one can know the student's individual method of learning. Once one knows this, it is possible to build a good relationship with the student, which is important to ensure a positive environment fit for learning.
As well is this, I think clear communication is of paramount importance, for clear communication mirrors clear thinking, necessary for achieving the highest grades. Thus, I think lessons should be carefully planned, so that information is communicated in an organised and concise way. I think this is the best way to help students think clearly and rationally.
I am currently completing a Masters in Fine Art at Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. I have also got a BA in History of Art and Philosophy, and did my A levels and GCSEs at Kingston Grammar School.
I am dedicated to becoming a painter and hope one day to enter academia to research the arts/culture. As such, I enjoy reading a wide variety of topics, including politics, philosophy, history, economics--anything that I think will be useful in understanding culture. In relation to this, I also like to keep up to date with global events, which I find is useful in providing concrete scenarios for me to test the abstract theory I learn from reading. I am also a freelance artist working on commission, and have exhibited my work in Leeds and London. In 2013 I organised an exhibition of eight student artists from Reading and Leeds in London. Throughout my life I have consistently achieved high academic standards, gaining 8 A*s and As at GCSE and 2A*s and an A at A level. During my time at Kingston Grammar School I held the art scholarship, which I gained through competition against other candidates on an exam. I gained a 1st on my undergraduate thesis, and am now enrolled at the top ranked art college in the UK, located in one of the country's top ten universities.
In my spare time I like to visit art galleries and museums. As well as reading, I also enjoy writing, and am currently blogging about ghost stories. For sports I have just started rock climbing, and also enjoy the occasional swim. I am confident and sociable, and I believe I have the competence to help students achieve the highest grades.
Am able to tutor: English Literature (GCSE, A Level), Maths (GCSE, A Level), Fine Art (GCSE, A Level), History of Art (A Level, Bachelors), Philosophy (A Level), as well as History and Physics, both at GCSE level only.
