I am very much an objectives-based teacher in my approach, in other words I like there to be an end product or at least to be working towards an end product at all times. This might be as simple as working on a piece on the piano whilst learning about hand techniques or, in the case of music production, learning about compression by creating a track. Theory is important but it can only take you so far and it is by applying what you know that the most useful learning takes place.
Therefore you might hire me, for example, to teach you piano or keyboard skills by working toward grade exams or to teach you mixing techniques as we work on your songs or album. I can also tutor geared to any GCSE/A level music course or vocational level 2 or 3 music or music technology course such as BTEC or VCert.
I have a particular interest in using technology both musical and non-musical and am happy to deliver lessons via Skype.
I am currently Head of Music at a large Rochdale secondary school with a number sf private students learning piano. Additionally, I have worked extensively as a freelance composer composing music for a diverse range of clients including the BBC, played keyboards in a number of bands and produced three albums of my own.
