No two students are exactly the same, so it's important to build a rapport with each student and learn what their individual problem areas are, as well as which tools will be most useful for them, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach. That said, I think the most important job a tutor can do is to teach a student how best to learn independently, so that they gradually need you less and less!
I have wide-ranging experience both in and out of the school environment, working with people with a variety of needs, from children on the autistic spectrum to adults learning English as a second language. This has taught me to be flexible, and to approach each student as an individual, adapting to their needs.
