I have a strong background in teaching and learning support in both further and higher education.
I have the following academic qualifications: PhD in Sport and Exercise Science - Aberystwyth University, 2014 (graduate July); Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education - Aberystwyth University, 2013; Fellow of The Higher Education Academy, 2013; Masters of Philosophy in Sport and Exercise Science - Aberystwyth University, 2012; Bachelor of Science (Hon) in Sport and Exercise Science (2:1) - Aberystwyth University (formerly University of Wales, Aberystwyth), 2008. I am also a qualified Level 3 Sports Massage Therapist (REP).
My PhD specialism was multi-disciplinary evaluation of falls prevention exercise programmes for older adults, and therefore my knowledge spans across the disciplines of psychology, biomechanics and human physiology.
My teaching experiences include three years of lecturing, delivering group seminars, tutoring and assessing undergraduate Sport and Exercise Science students as a graduate teaching assistant at Aberystwyth University in my specialist subjects.
I have also another three years of combined experience supporting learners in further education at Matthew Boulton College (now Birmingham Metropolitan College), and higher education at the University of Birmingham (via Clear Links Support Ltd.). In these support roles I have worked with learners with a range of special education needs, including attentional deficit disorders, autism, bipolar disorder, epilepsy, visual and auditory impairment, and anxiety and depression. The support I provide includes organisational and motivational support for students enrolled on a broad range of undergraduate subjects, including Arts, Engineering and the Sciences. Much of my work is to support learners to plan their study to meet impending deadlines and manage their own academic workloads.
I also have experience working with children (age 7-17 years old) through employment as an Activities Organiser for Padworth Summer English Language School, Berkshire UK. I have also worked as a Camp Counselor for Rawhide Ranch Summer Camp, California USA, with duties including teaching and coaching sports and activities. Therefore I am able to adapt my tutoring style to suit younger audiences who wish to study my subject specialisms.
