Tutoring approach

Personally I have had tutoring in the past, so I am able to apply all the positives and negatives I have gleaned into my own teaching style. I believe tutoring needs to be specific to each student; whether the session is pupil or teacher dominated, it is important for us to cooperatively work together.

Although I am a thorough believer in teaching being an encouragement for broader and deeper focus around the subject, I am also aware that strict exam criteria means that we need to utilise our time together efficiently. I believe a structured approach is important, with aims clearly stated at the beginning of the lesson and recapped at the end. Nevertheless flexibility within approach, teaching styles and time spent on content is equally as essential. If a student struggles in a particular area, it is important to dedicate the right amount of time to learn, and then revise this area of difficulty, resulting in a clear understanding and confidence to use all the skills needed for the particular exam or assignment.

Professional experience

Having recently qualified with a First Class Bachelors degree in English Literature and Language I still obtain wide range of knowledge surrounding the subject. I am still in the possession of all of my university resources, including PowerPoints, former lecture notes and even voice recordings which I am more than happy to share with clients, talking through aspects which may be useful.

Doing a joint honors in English Literature and English Language at university has allowed me to gather skills in both domains. I have the articulation and punctuation to craft essays accurately, alongside the linguistic and grammatical knowledge needed for any piece of academic prose.

On a personal note, I have a number of teachers in my family, therefore access to primary, secondary and A-Level resources is not a problem. I myself have personal teaching experience with children, and voluntary experience at a learning centre for adults, so I feel I can tailor my lessons to all abilities and ages.

I am more than happy to cover a range of Exam boards and writing based subjects (including History, RS and Philosophy and Ethics). I'm sure together we can achieve a goal mutually agreed upon and specific to every student.
