Tutoring approach

As a practising artist I have a lot of understanding for students working through practical problems and the need for strong supporting critical theory. I have always seen my role as that of a facilitator, to guide and advise the student enabling them to find their own creative voice. I love to discuss ideas and make suggestions. Techniques can be taught and value judgements made against the quality of work produced so developing and consolidating skills is important too.

 

Professional experience

I have taught across all post-16 levels from BTEC level 2 to BA. I have particular interest in FE and pre-degree foundation level studies. I have also taught students with special needs. Specialising in Fine Art, my main areas of work are drawing, in particular life-drawing, mixed-media visual studies, 3D and Art History with special interest in Renaissance and 20th Century artists.
