I aim to tailor my approach to each individual, seeking to make tutees as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and aiming to assess their needs on an individual basis. I draw on more than ten years' teaching experience to provide suitably differentiated learning materials and a variety of learning activities to meet each individual's needs.
Professional experience
I'm a fully qualified, passionate English teacher with over twelve years' experience of teaching in schools and colleges.
After leaving school in 1994, I completed a TEFL qualification and spent some time teaching abroad as a Gap student; I then graduated from Birmingham University with first class honours in 1998 (English/History). I spent some time working in homeless hostels after university, before completing my PGCE in 2002; I then taught at Abertillery comprehensive for eight years, teaching Humanities and Drama at KS3 as well as English and History to GCSE level. I took on the role of Essential Skills/ Literacy co-ordinator in 2008. Recently, I have worked at Rhymney College, before starting at Cardiff and the Vale College last year, teaching Essential Skills (Literacy). I also work as an examiner/moderator for various exam boards, including the WJEC, and I write Functional Skills Exams for Pearson. I have three children, aged eight, seven and three, and have enjoyed teaching them to read as much as I enjoy teaching at Secondary/College level.
