Tutoring approach

Whilst my approach varies from student to student in order to meet their individual needs, my philosophy is that every student, given the right support, can achieve the highest grades. Therefore, I aim to instill self-confidence and self-belief in the student over a period of time, which will build a foundation for both short and long-term success.

During the first session I will, along with the learner, identify key areas that require improvement. This will usually be through talking with the student, but also via mock examination. It will also be through mock examination that I will diagnose areas of improvement from which to obtain the highest grade possible. Subsequently, I will create a course of action plus targets that the learners should aim to achieve during the tuition sessions.

 

Professional experience

With over 200 hours of teaching, my experience is diverse in the level and subjects that I have taught.

I have taught numerous hours of Film & Media at A 'level, BTEC level 2 & 3, First and Second year Degree students. Such experiences have given me the unique opportunity to identify and develop key skills that learners need from me. Specifically, it has given me the opportunity to work with a variety of learners, which has dramatically improved my empathy as a teacher.

For example, first year BTEC and A 'level students will often lose marks in examination and in written coursework due to poor literacy. With that said, I usually work with a student to improve their functional skills in literacy and structure during the first two sessions. By the third session, the learners will typically comment that they can identify their own improvement, which leads to improving their self-esteem.

Additionally, by having industry experience I am able to reference and include practical material in my lessons and tuitions, which always seems to peak the learner's interest.
