EXPERIENCE
2005 - 2013 Teacher of English in Private Education - I became a full time private teacher, specialising in preparing students for their final school exams, and the TOFEL International Certificate in English. I tutored students in the age range from 6 to 18, as well as adults, including a number of medical professionals. I ran my own classroom and typically taught 10 class groups, numbering 50 or more students during a school year, and in this capacity, I have tutored in excess of 300 students in total. My main focus was on individual tailored lesson plans to meet each student's specific needs in order to help them reach their potential. I believe that in my home town, I was widely acknowledged as the best resource for language tutoring and new students had to wait 1 or 2 years before they could join one of my classes. Students who studied English with me, typically had excellent results in their school final exams, with a considerable number also passing TOFEL successfully, which in many cases enabled them to undertake advanced education studies abroad.
2005 - 2012 Stora Enso Company, and Ladenso Co - Pitkyranta - In addition to the above I offered courses in business English, to internationally based companies. I was retained under contract to run long term management training courses to instruct senior staff in a range of English language disciplines, including speaking, listening, writing and reading. Throughout the year, I ran 3 groups each of 10 students, with the objective of delivering engaging, coherent and motivating lessons. This included setting assignments and classroom activities, to meet the learning needs of individual students, who I sorted into small groups of similar skill levels.
1996 - 2005 Pitkyranta Private Comprehensive School: Head of Languages - I was invited to take responsibility of the Language Department of a newly formed private education establishment, aimed specifically at preparing students for University. The department had four teachers, and I was responsible for the planning and presentation of an interesting and varied programme of lessons. I was enthusiastic and keen to maintain an orderly, peaceful and positive learning environment and I planned and organized hands-on activities that encouraged active student participation/involvement and team work.
1994 - 1996 Pitkyranta Principle State Comprehensive School: Senior English teacher - This job enabled me to experience first-hand the practical application of the methods and strategies I had developed whilst working in the State Education Department. I developed teaching materials and lesson plans tailored to individual groups and pupils of varying levels of ability, from Beginners to Advanced. I also evaluated and reported on student progress, and conducted in-house testing, tailoring lessons accordingly, and providing additional tutoring to those students requiring extra help. I was acknowledged as achieving outstanding results in the age groups from 7 to 18, with many students performing exceptionally well in their English exams.
1994 - 2005 Teacher of English in Private Education - at this same time I was granted a license to teach English privately, and I provided lessons to groups of students ranging from ages 6 to 18. These lessons were aimed at supplementing school based learning, and improving the students’ results in their state final exams.
1992 - 1994 Pitkyranta State Education Department - I was responsible for the Teaching Methods Section of the Regional Education Authority, I was a specialist in Education Methods of Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I was invited to undertake this role as a result of my previous success in the Vocational School. In this role I monitored and mentored all of the foreign language teachers in the region and I attended the lessons given by English teachers, providing assistance where appropriate. I organised methods meetings for English teachers, and co-ordinated the teachers’ work in the region, providing project plans with regular meetings, workshops and seminars. I ran special tutoring sessions and discussion groups, and conducted training courses coaching teachers in developing their skills.
1981 - 1992 Pitkyranta Vocational School: I was a teacher of English and German to students between the ages of 15 and 18; an appropriate qualification in these subjects was mandatory for entry into university in Russia. My students had a success rate of 80 per cent, which was the highest within the all Foreign Language Departments of the secondary schools in the region; on many occasions I gave open door English lessons to other teachers, using my lessons as an exemplar of an effective learning style. I represented my school at a number of regional symposiums to discuss teaching methods, and on several occasions gave lectures on grammatical subjects, working with students of different age groups.
I am a motivated and organised teacher with 32 years experience of teaching languages, having specialised for many years in developing skills and practices in teaching methods. I communicate confidently and effectively, and I strive always to meet the highest standards.
I am Russian born, with leave to remain and work in Great Britain; I am married to a UK national, and I am seeking an opportunity to bring my wide ranging and significant experience to a suitably challenging role.
