Professional experience

I hold a BA in modern languages (English and French), with both translation and pedagogical strands, including a teaching qualification, and an MA in Translation Studies (translation and interpreting) from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi, Romania. During my BA studies I had teacher training modules, both practical and theoretical, I participated in lesson observation in several schools, I designed lesson plans and I taught lessons to secondary school students. I have worked as a teacher, first at a high school in Iasi, Romania, where I taught English to students aged 11 to 18 (in 2006-2007). I also taught English and French courses to adults, at the Eurolenguas language centre in Iasi (in 2007). Moreover, I taught English classes to first-grade primary school pupils at EuroEd Language Centre, and I also provided private tutoring to students who wanted to improve their language skills.

I have worked both as a language teacher and a translator as well as a public service interpreter; moreover, during the course of my PhD, I taught an undergraduate module in translation studies to first-year BA students. I was also involved in administration work related to the assessment and marking of students. My administration skills were also developed through my work as a project manager, a public relations officer and an in-house translator in the EU institutions. This summer I worked as an EAP English Language Teaching Associate at the University of Birmingham, where I taught EAP skills to a group of international students and I was involved in assessment, marking, as well as staff development training and administration work such as writing reports on the students' progress. I also designed and prepared a wide range of learning materials to develop the students' speaking, listening, writing and reading abilities. It was very rewarding and motivating for me to notice that the students' language skills improved, because I enjoy helping others realise their ambitions.
