Lessons will be structured so that I am able to first find out what the students' ability is, after which I will be able to gauge how much work is needed and what areas need to be focused on. I prefer to take an approach which challenges the student and pushes them beyond the necessary in order to achieve the highest possible marks, especially at GCSE level as it is through this process that I was able to achieve 8A*'s and 2A's. I intend to build a friendly yet disciplinary relationship with the student so that they feel comfortable enough to ask any question, no matter how trivial they might think it is, in order to best benefit them through the service.
Professional experience
Having been tutored myself throughout my school career, I have an active idea of how to structure the lessons to best benefit the student. I helped a class of three with their GCSE English as well as doing one-on-one tutoring on a regular basis. This included approaches to poetry, comprehension and structuring and formulating essay plans and essays in both a relaxed and exam-style environment. I have worked with both children and adolescents for various charity programmes as well as having experience in teaching English. I have A Levels in Biology in which I got an A, English Literature in which I got an A*, as well as Philosophy and Ethics in which I got an A*. Being a student myself, I am aware of the pressures and difficulties of the exam system and feel I was able to overcome these pressures through certain techniques which I will be happy to pass on to my students.
