Tutoring approach
Tutoring is a delicate balance between the learner directing sessions to their areas of perceived weakness and the tutor working to identify areas that the student is required to work on. As a result I believe it is vital to work together from the outset with regular reviews to ensure that the learner's needs (perceived or unknown) are met.
Initial sessions involve an appraisal of the tutees current work, their past grades and their aim for the following sessions. It will also involve an appraisal of the qualification outline, with key dates such as exams and coursework deadlines.
Once the initial session is completed, I work with the tutee to ensure that they are happy with the sessions, tailoring it to their own methods of learning, encouraging a relaxed and positive learning environment, where questions can be asked at any time.
As exams approach, sessions will be tailored to work on exam technique and timing to ensure that the tutee can perform to the best of their abilities, and exceed even their own expectations.
Professional experience
I have worked as a Science English teacher for the University of International Menendez Pelayo and Berlitz English in Barcelona, Spain. This course centred around leading classes through a curriculum (that was developed by myself and the other teachers involved in the programme), identifying students weaknesses and developing exercises to improve their skills.
I have also spent a significant amount of time working as a self employed teacher, working on a one-2-one basis with students. I have tailored course material to create a dynamic learning environment that centres around the learner, with them directing the outcome of the sessions, although retaining structure to ensure that all session goals are met.
