Tutoring approach

As a student of American Studies, I've learned to take an interdisciplinary approach to academia - by excelling in both English and History throughout my time at school, I believe one of my strengths is dovetailing the two to ensure a considered and coherent outlook. In terms of approach, I believe that a combination of debate and discussion is a lot more useful than writing and homework - if one can vocalize their thoughts first, then transferring them to paper will become easier during exams and such. I am extremely flexible time-wise, and would be more than happy to work on weekends. Not only this, but I would be equally as comfortable tutoring someone my own age as I would be somebody 15 years younger or older than myself - my only goal would be that they found my tutoring helpful and engaging and that this then drove them on to achieve academically.

 

Professional experience

While I have limited tutoring experience, I was chosen as the subject captain for Spanish at school, a role which I held for two years. In that time, it was my job to field questions and concerns from both parents and pupils regarding their decision to pursue Spanish. I believe this enabled me to engage with people my own age and younger and help guide them to ensure they got the most out of their time doing the subject. I also performed a similar role but to a lesser extent with History, however this was limited to fielding questions during parents' evenings and open days.
