Tutoring approach
I have been tutoring children and adults for several years. I am familiar with both the English and Scottish Secondary curriculum, and am confident teaching to both. I have helped students pass entrance exams, improve their marks on GCSEs, Standard Grades, A Levels and Highers, and have helped students get into their first choice universities.
My tutoring style is fairly informal and student led. In the first meeting, I discuss what my student hopes to achieve from our meetings, whether that be increased confidence, an improved grade, or a specific exam result. I then come up with a schedule by which to achieve these goals.
Professional experience
I first started tutoring due to the ease with which I could fit it around my university work. However, the more students I worked with, the more exciting and rewarding I found tutoring!
I graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA Hons in English Language and Literature (2011), and from the University of Edinburgh with a MSc in US Literature (2014, awarded with distinction). I love the way that tutoring allows me to use the pedagogic, communicative and analytical skills that I learned as part of my academic career. Tutoring should be rewarding and interesting for both student and tutor, and I try to bear this in mind at all times during my tutring sessions.
