I am a very calm and patient tutor, and my philosophy is that every student is different, so I focus on working with the student's strengths. If something isn't clear, I take my time to go over it until we both find a way that works. I make a real effort to get to know the students I support and build a good bond with them, so that they feel completely comfortable with me and can tell me if they don't understand something. I only have three rules: tell me if you don't understand, try it before you say you can't do it, and meet your deadlines! For this reason, my specialty is supporting students who might not be very confident, or might need some patience and persistence. Parents have told me that they feel like I 'get' what their children needs, and students have told me that they appreciate my encouragement and non-judgemental approach.
I am currently employed full-time at the University of Nottingham in a student support role, and have previous experience of teaching placements in secondary schools, including A Level and GCSE teaching English, Media and Citizensip to all abilities including EAL and SEN. I have also been a full-time tutor for adults studying English, Maths and IT short-courses, and worked part-time for a tutoring company for 2 years, teaching 4-16 year olds. I have private tutored 3 GCSE students, who all achieved the grade they were seeking in English. I completed my English degree in 2012, have been DBS certified for tutoring in all previous jobs, and am now looking to tutor again alongside my current role.
