Tutoring approach

I have experience teaching one-to-one and group fiddle lessons to a whole range of ages and abilities, so anyone is welcome.

I have a relaxed approach to teaching, ensuring that the lessons are fun and interesting, with students able to go at their own pace.

I am keen to work on what the student wants to focus on if they have an idea about what they want to learn. I also have an abundance of material to draw on and teach if students do not have a clear direction on where they want to take their music, so I am open to students with any mindset on approaching music.

 

Professional experience

I have been playing the fiddle for 15 years, performing solo, in duos and in bands in Ireland, England and Scotland, as well as teaching.

I have a BMus in folk and traditional music from Newcastle University, and an ALCM in Irish traditional music performance on the fiddle.

I have recorded for many different projects over the years, including a solo album and music for Irish dancing.

I am an accomplished composer, and have had one of my pieces played by the Royal Northern Sinfonia, based in Sage Gateshead.
