Tutoring approach

My tutorial approach is aimed to the student personal objectives.
Because I am working full time in a professional orchestra I am only in Sheffield a week per month. However, on the these weeks I have plenty of free time to help you to develop your skills in your instrument.

 

Professional experience

I, Rui Travasso, was graduated in Clarinet from Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal). In 2005, I finished a Post-graduation in Performance - Clarinet Classic at the Zuid- Nederlandse Hogeschool voor Muziek (Netherlands) where I was a student of Professor Walter Boeykens. Between 2009 and 2011, I completed 99 credits of a degree in Jazz and Modern Music (Tenor Saxophone) at the Universidade de Évora (Évora, Portugal). I could not finish this degree because I started a Master in Music Education (Clarinet) at the Instituto Piaget de Almada (Almada, Portugal). I graduated in 2012 with a score of 18 out of 20 on my thesis: My teaching experience and the clarinet articulation. During my academic life I also took 8 years of piano lessons, and in my opinion, this is a great value for teaching the youngest students. Due to my master thesis and to my experience in recording sessions, I am able to use several music software (notation and producer) like Sibelius, Logic, Finale, Protools, Band in a Box and Garageband.
Since 2002 I have been teaching in several Portuguese conservatories of music (Évora, Portimao, Pamela, Óbidos and Lisboa) where I taught clarinet, ear training, chamber music and combo Jazz. In addition, I was the wind and percussion coordinator of Conservatorio Regional de Évora between 2007 and 2012. During these years I organized two music summer camps (Férias com Música) and four International clarinet competitions (Prémio José Augusto Alegria) in Évora.
As a performer, I have played in almost all the Portuguese professional and youth orchestras. Between 2002 and 2009 I was Principal Clarinet of the Symphonic Band of the Portuguese Police. I have recorded in multiple occasions for the Portuguese National Televisions, Radios and some discographies. In 2008, through an audition I was chosen to play in the musical Cabaret produced by the Portuguese National Theatre Maria Matos. In 2008, I started to play the Saxophone with the Pop Band Primitive Reason. With them I have played in the most important rock festivals of Portugal and Spain. Since 2013 I work at the Orquestra Clássica do Sul (Faro, Portugal) as Soloist B and I became soloist A through to an international audition in April, 2015.
Since 2014 I am doing a PhD - Music with performance (Clarinet) at the University of Sheffield, working with Dr. George Nicholson and Dr. Renee Timmers as supervisors and with Nicholas Cox as Clarinet teacher.
