I believe that the key to tutoring any subject to any prospective pupil is to establish fundamental skills whilst retaining genuine enjoyment of the content. I always strive to ensure that my pupils both enjoy and fully understand what they are studying.
As a tutor, I have privately taught bass guitar, guitar, composition, music theory and GCSE/A-level music to children and adults of all ages and abilities. A recent success has been getting a 14 year old pupil from very limited knowledge to passing grade 5 music theory in just under 3 weeks!
I have over eleven years experience as a professional freelance bass guitarist and composer. My work has been performed across the world and I have played within a wide variety of styles across the UK and Europe. Highlights include working with the English Symphony Orchestra, Niels-Ole Bo Johansen, S4C television and Renny Jackson.
I also work as a freelance music typesetter, editor and proof-reader and have worked for publishers Boosey & Hawkes, Difem Music Publishing (Switzerland), Composers Edition, The University of Birmingham and composers John Jubert, Mira Calix and Emily Hall. Consequently, I am able to offer industry level experience and skill with the following software programmes and platforms: Sibelius, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Mainstage, FlipPDF, Quicktime Pro and Wordpress.
