Every student's needs are different, therefore I tailor my tutoring approach to each individual. Before my sessions, I ask students to provide me with some questions or topics they are struggling with. From there, I plan my lessons to fit the student, and ensure that their hour is not wasted. I am a strong believer in practice makes perfect, which is why I include many examples in my lessons, and write worksheets for students to do once the lessons are complete. This helps students apply what they have learned in my lessons, and lets me assess what areas they need to improve. While past exams can be helpful, I think it is important for the tutee to see and attempt unseen problems. At the end of my lessons with a student, I write a supplementary mock exam that the student can attempt. I believe this gives students more confidence about their upcoming exams and really demonstrates their improvement. I do not charge extra for any supplementary work I provide, and I am available to answer questions the tutee may have via email at any time. As a tutor, I believe it is my job to support the student until their exams are finished and they no longer need my help.
I am a third year undergraduate student at the University of York, currently studying chemistry. Although I am a chemistry student, I have a strong background in mathematics and physics. Upon my graduation from school, I was awarded the Excellence in Calculus Award. I have 6 years of tutoring experience with children between the ages of 6-16, teaching maths, science and english. In addition to private tutoring, I have worked in primary schools, assisting teachers to help children understand mathematical an scientific concepts within the curriculum.
