I think it is important to be able to enjoy tutor time and to differentiate this time from classroom style learning as well as other chores. For this reason I take it upon myself to make any exercises different from what is found in that environment whilst still adhering to the curriculum.
I also take this time to try and train the student to think in a way that is conducive to there own style and not to focus on rote learning.
Professional experience
I have been tutoring since early high school, mostly working on remedial reading and writing with dyslexic pupils. I also have spent some time since starting university in a high school working as a teaching assistant in maths and physics.
